Hello all.

I just found out that my partner''s ex wife claims that her solicitor''s fees concerning a Contact Order (that my partner has already filed for and she has just to be present together with her solicitor or a barrister) and a Leave to Remove will cost her £30.000 !

Can this be correct??

Our solicitor said that it will be approx £2-3000. How can something so simple cost £30.000??

Please, I need your help on this, so that I understand...

A Contact order representation (let''s say all three hearings) and a Leave to Remove application and representation cost £30.000??

Costs depend on a number of things. First of all is the seniority and experience of the solicitor. Then there is the amount of work involved and how many hearing there are. £2-3k sounds about right for the first hearing but if the issues can''t be resolved and there are one or two more hearings involving barristers costs could conceivably reach £30k although that is fairly steep.

Thank you Fiona.

My partner has applied for the Court Order and has paid, together with the barrister not more than 2K. Could you explain how the possible next two hearings could add up to 28K? This is a bit too much... unless the barrister or the solicitor sleeps with us at night. :-)

Could it be that her solicitor is assuming the LTR application will be contested, as most are? That would obviously bump up costs.

There really is no upper limit to costs, and once a case becomes stuck in the courts the sky''s the limit.

I''ll stop you right there. Listening to this kind of Chinese Whispers is seldom a good idea.

Who cares how much it will cost HER anyway?

Listen to your solicitor, not what she claims her solicitor told her. There are many, many reasons that this information could be completely wrong.

Thank you all for your help!

cookie2: I totally agree with you.
This should not be our concern. She made her bed, she must now sleep on it. My problem is that my partner does not see it that way. There is a reason he mentioned this to me and I do not think it is purely for information.

A reliable source told me last night that there is a possibility this amount contains more orders that just these two ie. Residence Order since the Contact Order is simple in our case. This worries me a lot.

My court case for contact cost my ex £23k by the time we finished.

That funded
2 years of court litigation with 12 hearings (8 Directions, 2 contested hearings which never happened and ended up with orders by argeements, 1 ex-parte hearing and 1 final order)

I self-repped.
