Just a thought. Stbx as per his entitlement is deducting over night stays from maintenance. He''s supposed to have child from 430 friday return 630 sunday (every other weekend).

Query As stbxhe doesnt collect until 7pm or later and brings child back lunchtime, sunday, I therefore have to give child dinner before picked up and lunch & dinner on return, along with all the weekend washing, backlog of homework etc...... So what is this reduction for?

I have no problem doing any of the above, but trying to make a point. I think maybe I sound a bit petty... But as usual they get to do nice things no school work, no washing, few dinners,(goes to grandparents to sleep. eat) etc and then he deducts overnight stays.

You are right a child generally costs very little when asleep!!!

But I suppose the CSA have to use rules and the overnight stay one really is probably the only sensible one to use. Not always fair but probably the only sensible measure on shared care.

Also its based on night because it does actually cost to provide that home for that night.

If a child doesnt stay overnight then they dont need a room and housing costs are reduced.

My partners has two empty rooms in his home for his children. A 3 bedhouse costs the same whether a child is there or not and for him the children are not there 2/3 of the time. (not what he wants but apparently its better for the children to only see him 1 night a week and alternate weekends.)

The point is, I know it costs to accomodate a child overnight. stbx rarely has hin overnight at his place he palms him off to baby sitters, friends and grandarents has very little contact with child himself this past many weekends.!

No objection to being with grandparents either, it''s just the cheek to deduct when the child is the one gets less as has so many expenses specially school fees etc. I know prob can''t do much about it. He is a high earner too! Great minds do not think alike!

BCaz.a It seems they can deduct £x amount because they have them overnight. They cld be sleeping in a cardboard box or stayin over at the ritz. Doesnt matter!

My friends ex picks the child up at 1030pm brings back 12.30 lunchtime nxt day and deducts overnight costs. Sometimes he doesn''t come at all and she doesn''t get maintenance returned.
