My stbxh agreed to swap days with me this weekend so i could do something special with my daughter. He has now contacted me to say he cant swap after all as he has a birthday party to attend on saturday evening and so cant have her sunday. I have already confirmed my plans now so dont want to swap back. His solution to this was could he pick her up an hour later than usual for contact on sunday. My concern is that i know my stbxh is a heavy drinker when he is out, and as he wants to pick her up later he is obviously planning on being hungover. Now my stbxh isnt a very good driver at the best of times but hungover with alcohol in his system is not a very good prospect!!

Any suggestions?

Can you drop off and pick up your daughter yourself on the Sunday?

If we had an amicable relationship i might consider it but we really dont and he wont provide me with his address so he wouldnt let me anyway. Plus i dont really have the cash for a 120 mile round trip!

I suppose your ex might say he has tried his best to accommodate you; agreed to swap weekends and despite his own plans travelling down to collect his dtr. You know the inns and outs better than anyone but if you genuinely feel there''s a child welfare issue involved surely the answer is to cancel your own plans and revert back to the normal weekend routine.

Hi jslgb

If you had already made the plans then it''s a bit unfair of him to renage on the now.

But I get where your coming from re the drinking as my x is the same, kids won''t travel with him unless the have to.

I would offer either the two days the next weekend (if your dr stays overnight) or ask if he wouldn''t mind skipping a wk end (or have an extra day in the hols) so you can continue your plans.

Do you think he would go for this or is it a fate a compli?

Like i said, our ''relationship'' is far from amicable! He see''s contact as his god given right and has demanded our dtr misses school things and friends parties before now.

I dont particularly want to cancel my plans now as i checked with him and he didnt mention anything so i confirmed my plans and dont really want to let my dtr or other people down.

He doesnt have overnight contact as there are there are other welfare issues regarding that. As for holidays, he doesnt take any time off work to have extra contact and the one week he has planned to go away is the week we are going away so he''s not overly concerned about extra contact!!

I have asked if he can arrange for someone else to drive as he has done this before so fingers crossed he will go with that!
