Can an NEG grant be split

Hi all, hoping that you can help me.

I''m wondering if the free nursery placement (NEG grant) can be split between two nurseries for a single child?

Anyone have any advice?

do you mean the free 15 hours? if so, yes, it''s possible to split it across more than one provider, providing of course that they have the appropriate registrations.

I''m looking into the possibility of having my son for one week and her having him for one week even if she moves. That would have to mean 2 different nurseries as we''d be 60 miles apart.

In a years time I should then be in a position to move closer to her so that we can continue the shared care arrangements since my tenancy will have ended.

I doubt that the court will go for it, but it''s kind of my last ditch effort. After that I don''t have much hope left.

I doubt you''d be able to split it on that basis - I''m not aware of any nurseries who will take you on a week on/week off basis. Essentially, they will want payment for everyday they keep a place open for your child. So you could attend week on/week off but you''d have to pay for both weeks.

My eldest child went to a preschool that was only able to offer him one day a week. He used the rest of the grant in that preschool and for the rest of the time at his nursery.

Yes this is probably true - the nursery need to keep to minimum ratios of staff, and opertae on fairly low margins. They can''t easily employ someone on a week on/week off basis, so unless they have other children attending with similar patterns it is tricky for them. You could ask though.

Is it only a tenancy agreement that is preventing you for moving? It may be difficult to re-establish shared care after a year.

More than just the tenancy agreement, I just don''t have the money to move house again, and I currently live with someone who would not be able to afford to pay the rent on her own if I were to move sooner than March 2013.

I am considering instead an arrangement like

Week 1 Friday 10.00 - Tuesday 6.30
Week 2 Monday 10.00 - Tuesday 6.30

That way I could book him a place for just Mondays and Tuesdays here, and she could book him a place fore Wednesdays - Fridays. Then I would be able to move closer before he attends school full time where that arrangement would no longer be possible.

Just managed to get hold of the LEA. Apparently it can be split between settings and even between different authorities.
