I have PR (dad) for my 2 kids. My ex wants to take kids out of school for 2 days to go abroad. She is allowed to take kids abroad through a court order provided she has given me 14 days notice, which she has.

My question is can I object to kids being taken out of school during term time.

The kids are being taken for a holy communion party in a eastern european country. The communion itself is in London.

Where do I stand?

For clarity I am not against her celebrating her holy communion or having a party. Just that kids have to miss 2 days of school as a result.

Has the school granted her permission for the 2 day absences? If not, is she willing to pay your fine as well as her own?

You could object, but think about the bigger picture- it's two days spent doing something that is clearly important and presumably they will be able to spend time with extended family at the same time? If you object then it may be seen as being a bit mean and preventing the children from participating in something that is culturally important. It's also coming to the end of term, so all the important exams and tests will be out of the way - is it likely the will miss anything significant while away?

Do those two days fall on your time with the children?

If none of these apply, then I would suggest you wish them a wonderful communion party, and you look forward to hearing all about it when the children return.

Sylvia

Thank you for a quick reply.
Yes school has given permission for the 2 days.

Its more a principle thing. I wasn't asked about taking kids out of school, she did it and just informed me. Can she do this though? She claims she has parental responsibility too and doesn't need my permission.

Am not keen to allow this to be a precedent for her for the future. Am not about withholding it, want to know where i stand from a legal stand point.

If it was her days to have the children then like she says she has PR too.

Like Sylvia says wish them a nice time and say you hope to see loads of photos of the event.

It would have been nice to have been consulted first but sometimes you have to choose your battles.
