I have been married for 17 months and was re entry serve divorce papers and haveup to 20days to answer, however today makes it day 6 and I have not signed anyThing yet...However the house is in his name, however I contribute to the house mortgage and fixing things up, what can I do to ensure that if he is considering selling it without my input, and I get portion of it, also the vehicle that I am driving is in his name along with the insurance however I make make that I pay the bills on the vehicle when it is due, I have not signed any paper work(since I have not signed anything as of yet pertaining to the divorce, is it true that he cannot change anything unless the judge says so).
Also we sat down about 2weeks ago and I recorded the conversation him saying that my child and I can live in the house until March 2017, and the car and car insurance remains in his name and if I miss a payment then he will change it.... Can any of this info be used if need be....

What If anything can be asked to give... Can I get maintaince support, can I get alimony although it's only been 17months... What can I get as part of the settlement... My daughter has known her biology father and on the day of our wedding he asked to be her father in front of all our friends pastor and family, what if any is his obligation or financial obligations to her.... I just need some answers as to what to do...I cannot afford a lawyer...

Welcome to wikivorce. People here will do their best to advise you, but they would need some more detail about your relationship in order to help.

As far as the house is concerned, you may be able to register matrimonial home rights with the Land Registry, which would mean he couldn't sell without your agreement.

The local C.A.B should be able to help you to establish your rights, so it's advisable to seek advice without delay to ensure that your interests are properly protected.

A big factor in any response is how long you were together in total. Did you cohabit before the wedding and for how long? For instance, 17 months would not give you many rights, but if you were together for a few years prior to the marriage it may make a big difference to any entitlement.

In order to help you more, wikis would need the following information:

Both your ages;

Any period of pre marriage cohabitation;

The age of your child; your daughter would be seen as a 'child of the marriage' but are you receiving Child Support from her biological father?

Your respective incomes;

Your respective outgoings;

Your assets - both individual and joint;

Your liabilities.

When you can, if you post the extra details people will be able to give you advice.

Thank you so much...

We cohabited together for 6minths prior to the wedding

We were together 1yr and 9months before marriage played in par..

He will be 50 yrs September 29
I will be 44yrs on the 16th of this month

My daughter is 10 yrs of age and no Financial involvement at all from her biological father.

My income $2800 and $2300 outgoing... On my end...
No assets on my end..

He end has the house, his car and my jeep in his name.
Question: since I have not signed the uncontested divorce papers yet can he make any changes to as far as changing the jeep into my name and the insurance.... Also if I want to do contests divorce when can I do so... Meaning can I wait a day or two before my 20 days are up to so contested divorce....

this is his house, can I change the locks on my bedroom amd or front door(he says he loves downstairs in the basement and I live upstairs)

Also the laundry area is in the basement however he is telling me that I cannot use the washer and dryer and go to the outside laundry center... Is he allowed to so that? Bans me from using the washer and dryer in his house?

Unfortunately, as you live outside the jurisdiction of the UK legal system, very few wikis can advise you on the legal issues, and they would have to come online and read your post. We do have members overseas who rely on the wiki community for emotional support.

A good plan would be to do an online search for support in your State just as you found Wikivorce. You may find a site just like this one which would be able to give you free support.

Wikivorce members would of course be able to help with just the day-to-day upset of dealing with the breakdown of your marriage. Being part of this supportive community helps us to make a kind of sense out of what is happening in our lives as we move through the divorce process.

Best wishes.

I have read the advice given by my good friend Mitchum, but to it's clear to me that you are probably an American citizen.

There is no such thing as ' USA divorce law ' it depends on the laws of the particular state.

You say you have received a divorce petition. Where was it issued, in
England and Wales or in a state of the USA ? If it's the latter, we can't help you, you must consult an attorney in the particular state.

I need an answer to that preliminary question before I can offer any help at all.
