At a loss. Partners ex coming after my money was created by when will it end
I met my partner whilst he was separated from his wife at the time for a year. Once we started dating he spoke to his wife and said that he wanted to start divorce proceedings as they had been separated for over 2 years. Unfortunately this is where things have started to go wrong. His wife refused to sign divorce papers and instead decided to file for divorce on grounds of unreasonable behaviour. She got a reasonable settlement when they went there different ways. But now she wants more and has said that because we live together (12 months) she will come after my house. I bought my house before meeting my partner and is sowly in my name. My partner does contribute to the bills. My question is, is there anyway this woman can come after my money in the form of my house? I'm at a loss. Sorry should have added my partner received a letter from her solicitor asking about his living arrangements.

Sorry to hear about the stress you are under. Your partner's ex can have no claim on your house. The only relevance of cohabitation is that his living costs will be reduced because they are shared. His housing needs will still be a consideration.

A word of caution, keep the house in your sole name. If you do decide to buy together, make sure you have a deed of trust drawn up to preserve your investment.

She won't have any claim over any of your assets.

You say that she got a reasonable settlement, did this go through Court and get sealed as a Consent Order giving a clean break or did they just agree it themselves?

A consent order was drawn up a year ago but she never signed it. But was given everything as set out in the concent. This included lump sum pension payment, 5yr spousal payment paid in a lump sum and £100k which was all the profit made on the sale of the family home. Unfortunately in good faith my partner thought he was doing right towards her as it was his decision to leave the marriage. And has spent the last 10mth trying to get her to sign the consent/clean break order.

Unfortunately she now wants more.

Thank for your response

As long as you don't get married you are treated as 2 separate people. As stated if you sell and buy another house this will be treated as a business decision with two people involved. Keep his name off the mortgage if possible (if there is one).

As an aside, I wish people would stop using the word ' partner '

That can mean anything at all.

There is a vital distinction between the married and the unmarried and it's not possible to advise when you don't know what you're dealing with.
