I have separated from my ex girlfriend.
I am a serving police officer. I have two children witn my ex. We were never married.
Can my ex make a claim against my pension?
I can only find advice regarding officers divorcing but none of them deal with people who only lived together.
Most websites advise that an ex girlfriend can never make a claim against the pension regardless of how long you were together. but im told this doesnt apply to police?
Can that be correct?

Welcome to Wikivorce.

My understanding is that a cohabiting partner can only make a claim on a police pension if the police offer dies and the couple were still together at the time of the death.

Thanks for the reply.
That is what i thought but a colleague insists he had to relinquish his claim on the house in order to prevent his ex from claiming against his pension, even though he was also unmarried.
Ive had legal advice that said as we were not married then you just split the house but he insists that his pension was at risk.

I would clarify with a solicitor who has knowledge and experience of dealing with police pensions.

Your colleague may have gotten the wrong end of the stick.
