hi. my wife moved out of our home in august. we are joint owners of 50% of the shared ownership property. there is no mortgage as it is paid off. we pay rent on the other 50% to the housing association. I am still living in the property and am currently paying the full rental for the 50%, before she moved out she paid half of the rent. she has indicated to me lately that she could charge me rent to live in the property as she still jointly owns the other 50% with me.

can she do this? i would think not, but i would like advice. i would have thought that as we are joint owners of the 50% she cant just start charging rent without the agreement of the other joint owner, which is me. and she can't just start charging me rent to live in the property i jointly own.

hope this makes sense, thanks for any advice
