What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Me and my wife have separated but are still trying to work things out.
I pay my wife a set amount which covers everything including my half of the mortgage and half of whatever other bills I need to.
My question is do I need to pay the half of the mortgage separately and mark it as mortgage payment to prove I am still paying the mortgage.

There’s no such thing as your half of the mortgage. You’re both liable for the full amount.

You need to post more details of incomes and children for someone to comment. Where are you both living now?
