What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi my ex got up and left in the middle of the night about a year ago. He left me paying the mortgage ( which is also in his name) utility bills and everything else to pay for food on the table for the kids and a roof over their heads. Am I entitled during the mediation process to declare any of this back by way of how the split of equity is divided? Tia

It’s usual for whoever remains in the house to pay the full mortgage as the counter argument is you’ve had sole use of the property and haven’t paid your ex half the going market rent.

Utility bill s are the responsibility of the user.

As regards providing for children is he paying child maintenance? If not get it sorted as you can’t backdate it.
