Hi new to the forum and im here to try and help a friend out who is just going through a separation and in need of a little bit of help and advice along the way so will try n give as much info as i can.

She was in a domestic violent relationship and with lots of help she has just been re-housed into a council home with her 2 5 year old children.
She's been married for 20 yrs and they owned their home which she has had to move out because of whats been going on and for her safety and for the children.

She has just had 1st contact with her ex and he has demanded she hands back the house keys and also the car.
So just to start with they have 2 cars which where bought during the marriage but both are in his name and he has demanded she returns the car or he will report it stolen to the police knowing she relies on the car to get the children to and from school and also work etc..so question is can he demand it back and report it stolen?

If anymore information is needed then will try best to provide it but hopefully someone can help us along with any info or advice.
Cheers

If the car was bought from a joint account she can argue that it is her car also.

I sold a car that was in STBX name, and he reported me to the police for theft. They investigated and dropped the case after I provided evidence of the purchase of the car from a joint account.

He will be viewed in a bad light by expecting your friend to make do with no car when there are 2 family cars.

Has she registered with CMS for child Maintenance. I believe her collection fees are waived if there is a history of domestic violence.
