I was told that I could take over the existing mortgage as based on my affordability but have managed to get a re mortgage offer from NatWest through a broker. Its a much higher amount to cover the outstanding mortgage plus estimated additional funds to buy him out.
I'm now at the stage of receiving correspondence from the conveyancer acting on behalf of NatWest and having a mild panic at the enormity of the sum and having a mortgage in my sole name.
To move was not really an option based on costs and what I would get for my money and stability for the kids.
I haven't got a solicitor at the moment to avoid costs racking up and have done the divorce by myself up to Decree Nisi being granted.
Can anyone advise me around the order of events please. Do I instruct them to go ahead with the remortgage appln alongside negotiating the proportion of split? Do I arrange the removal of him from the deeds with Land Registry? Does that happen after the remortgage appln? Do I really need a solicitor to deal with it on my behalf as well as the conveyancer? Do I need to wait for mediation to complete and Consent Order to be written before proceding? (presumably no, as the offer may fall flat?). What if he refuses to take his name off and I end up taking on the mortgage?
