What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Can anyone tell me what happens if the respondent doesn't show up for the first hearing as I suspect that mine won't?

We are supposed to exchange form E next week and she isn't responding to my calls, letters.

Is there anything that I can do to get her there?

Thanks

The appointment will probably be adjourned. If your ex constanly ignores these hearings they can be served with your Form E - to show they received and understood it.

The more a person pulls against the legal system by non attendance etc, the worse it can become for them...i.e. costs can be awarded to petitioners favour in this case, courts do not like people wasting their time
