I''ve searched through the wiki forum and cannot find that this has ever really been answered.

Is there any way of finding out if STBX is claiming legal aid? And if so, when can I find out?

The fact that he''s claiming poverty and yet using a solicitor makes me think this is the case.

Hi,

I cannot remember exactly how it worked with me, but I was claiming Legal Aid and I think my solicitor had sent his solicitor a copy of my certificate? I know for a fact, that my solicitor was aware that my ex was a private paying client.

Are you using a solicitor? If so, he/she will know whether your ex has a Legal Aid certificate or is a private client.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don''t have a solicitor, I''m trying to self-rep on this at the moment.

On my partners contact issues he asked for a copy of his exes certificate and was sent one. You are entitled to know the legal aid situation, just write and ask his solicitor?

Didn''t know I could ask!

Well, as and when his solicitors actually get in touch and I have need to respond, I''ll throw it in as a question. Does anybody know if they *have* to answer the question if asked?

I feel sure that they are required to tell you, especially if you ask the question directly.

Hopefully someone will be able to confirm from a legal point of view.
