What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Last january i applied for a divorce on grounds of unreasonable behaviour and the papers were sent to my husband who lives in spain. He refuses to sign them as he wants me to sell my house in uk which was bought solely by myself to give him half. We jointly own a house in spain so i said i will sign this over to him and i keep mine which sounded fair to me. Now i am living on a remote island and have no wish to return to uk but want to proceed and remarry. I have found a bailiff in spain who will serve papers.
What i need to know is can i proceed with a solicitor in uk without me having to return as this is very dificult, and if i do will it create problems with finances later on if he decides to pursue his claim, which i doubt he will as it will cost more than it is worth.
