What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hope you have a solicitor to help present your case. Based on any information which is available the judge can make adverse inferences as to your husband''s "true" income and make a ruling.

I can''t afford one and the ex dropped his as soon as I filed with the courts.
We are in a horrific position.

IF you have no funds for a solicitor and your husband has resources the courts could possibly order he pays for your legal services. Some solicitors offer a free preliminary appointment so you can meet them and they can tell you generally about the process. You won''t get free legal advice, but it would be worth finding out about a Legal Services Order otherwise you may struggle because of the lack of evidence.

Hope that helps.

Between us we have nothing he spent £3000 sending me solicitors trying to make me move out FMH
And only has his modest £30,000 income. since we separated he''s racked up masses of debt having expensive clothes and 3 foreign holidays and money has been moving into his girlfriends account since we separated. he''s now just moved in to a new property with the girlfriend / mistress so more debt he''s now in
