What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I will have a first appointment sometime in the new year when the Court gets round to listing it. The hearing will be firstly because I have applied for a downward variation in maintenance because of a major reduction in my income which has coincided with my ex receiving a major increase in come. I have also had to reduce maintenance because I could not sustain payments at the old rate and my ex has made an application for arrears. I believe that both will be heard at the First Appointment and that the hearing will last about half an hour.
We have been through form E and Form E2, I have provided a full response on both occasions and having received the other side''s questions have decided to respond to as many of their questions as possible proactively before the hearing as I have nothing to hide. The other side have provided incomplete Form E and Form E2 submissions with basic elements such as Bank and Credit Card Statements missing.
At the moment I''m acting for myself and considering self representation so would like to know what to expect on the day?
