What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I read on here recently by someone who posted it that if you need advise on filing court forms out your local county court will help you. So I went along with the forms and had to explain the reason for my visit to the man on the door who then sent me inside to see the security guys, I explained to them that I wish to make an appointment for help with filing out court forms as I can''t afford a solicitor they gave me a leaflet with the court number on it and said to ring this and enquire, this I could not do as it was a money making telephone number and my mobile would not let me so in the end I managed to use a landline and was kept on there for about 12 minutes to then be told you cannot get an appointment for this and you should go to the Citizens Advise Bureau this then would take me full circle also having to be lucky that there is a retired solicitor available. So after all this I would have to assume that there are some courts that will help and some that won''t and it''s down to pot luck if you in the right area.
