What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi, just received my amended Petition back from court where I had to add his address as he would not initially provide, this is ok, but the court is asking "we are unable to process your Amended Petition because you have not re-signed and re-dated it in red. Please deal with the above matter and return ensring the page bearing the pruple imprestn". What does this mean in English and where about do I sign and date ? Thank you

The purple imprint is the court seal (stamp). The only purpose of this is to demonstrate to the court that you have paid the court fee. Sign and date in a space as close to the original signature and date.

Follow the instructions and return the documents to the court.

The purpose of the red pen is to illustrate what has been amended.

Each subsequent amendment has to use a different coloured pen (green is next from memory). If you get to purple which is about the 7th amendment the Petition will catch fire or the world will end - nobody is quite sure.
