What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi,

Does anyone know how difficult it is to adjourn a court hearing? I suspect the applicant will refuse to consent to it, he''s a narcissistic bully.

Any help greatly appreciated

You would write to the court requesting adjournment and copy your ex if self-representing, or their solicitor if they have one. They could then object to adjournment but the decision lies with the judge. If you adjourn you are adding even more time to what is already a lengthy process.

What is your reason for seeking an adjournment and when is the hearing?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

The hearing was restored on the last date permitted to do so. There has not been a first hearing. This was adjourned so that mediation could take place. A Directions hearing is set for 27 April.

I am having trouble finding legal representation and I am under extreme stress due to an other hearing this week and a further police investigation into my ex partner.

Regards
