What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Still a bit confused as it was the judge who would not approve the Consent Order and he adjourned. I had to pay 5 k costs when I returned to court for further Directions as stated I had to on Court paperwork.
So it is not the case of oneself being detrimental in this case surely it was the judge who would not approve the order? although I agree with him totally.
It was two seperate judges and because they disagreed I ended up paying 5k. Dont think I will ever underdstand!

It sounds as though there are some facts pertinent to your case which led to the costs order. I would expect that the judge felt the hearing was a waste of time in which case you were ordered to bear the costs ''thrown away'' by the adjournment.

Without more facts it is difficult to explain the position but I expect it is all water under the bridge and it is better to look forward than back.

No it was totally costs for the hearing resulting from the adjournment. If the first judge would not approve the consent order due to a mistake by both barristers, although I agree my barrister at fault for making me sign there was nothing I could do apart from return to court!
Unfortunatly have a case for misrepresentation againt my barrister which is proceeding but due to mistakes in past I need to know if this was totally my barristers fault or something went wrong with court system. I do not want to listen to advise from someone in legal profession and at a later date learn it is incorrect at a huge loss financially and healthwise to myself.
