What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi,

My CO was submitted to the court in S’hampton 6 weeks ago.

Today I called them, they said that the CO hadn’t got to the judges office yet, that it probably would next week and would take up to 8 weeks from then for the judge to review.

Does anyone have experience as to how long it takes for a judge to review a CO?

Thanks

This sort of timescale is not unusual. In the Midlands it's taking 4-6 months for a Consent Order.

The problem is that the length of the queue is huge so your letter goes to the back of the queue and it doesn't actually register as being there until a few weeks later when it is logged onto the system.

It then joins another queue for the judge to process and once processed it joins another queue to be typed up.

There is usually a further queue in which the finished article waits until it is dropped in the post.

If a judge asks for further information does the reply go back through the waiting game to get on the system or straight to the judge?
