What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Does anyone know if a judge looks at incoming money on bank statements which are one offs under £500.
My stbx has raised several questions about small amounts of incoming money on my bank statements, one is even £20!!!!!
My hearing was cancelled and his solicitor has suggested we start answering the questions and these just seem very pointless.
I am loosing my patience with him and his solictior.
Also how much roughly do barristers costs?

Transactions of £20 would be considered trivial and questions of this nature would be struck out by the judge.

As a general rule questions about transactions below £500 would normally be disallowed. If you are answering without an order that compels you to do so, it would be reasonable to just state that the amounts are trivial. If there is a good reason why the questions have been asked, they can put the reasoning to a judge who will decide if they should be. This may be an application ahead of the next hearing.

A barrister may cost £3-4k for an FDR. It can be worthwhile if the pot is of a size to merit their involvement. You might want to have a look at our divorce consultant service which can be used to help you work with a barrister as a LIP.
