What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Wrong court venue for First Appointment

Hi, due to a mix up, I've been told that our First Appointment hearing will be in Newcastle upon Tyne. As I live in Newcastle Under Lyme, in Staffordshire that is not my local court.

The confusion obviously comes from the place name 'Newcastle'. I've called the HMCTS line a number of times to tell them and I have been told to email Newcastle Upon Tyne and tell them (which I did), my local court (which I did) and to make an official complaint (which I did). I've even written a letter to HMCTS in Harlow asking them to look into it but have not had a reply after nearly two weeks.

My court appreance is in mid October but I'm starting to get worrried that I may be making the nearly four hour trip there and back for a pointless appointment when the judge finds out.

Has anyone got any other suggestions as to how I can get this resolved or a direct contact number at Newcastle court?

Thanks

That number just takes me to the HMCTS national helpline where it takes over an hour to speak to someone then, as I said in my post, they tell me things that I've done already. I'm stuck in a loop with them and no where else to go.

The HMCTS website promises a reply to emails in ten days but they don't bother replying. It's a complete shambles. I'll try my local MP next as a last chance.
