What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I have decided to minimise the costs where possible on my divorce and have filled out form D8and statement of arrangements. when lodging them with the Court, how do I actually do this. do I turn up in person and ask for the relevant department etc with my cheque and forms? do I need to book in advance?

sorry if really silly questions but I cant find the answers anywhere. maybe they are so obvious

Hi Fieldy12,

You can do it in person and you don't need to book an appointment.

You should take some ID with you and also your marriage and birth certificate just in case. I can't remember if they are needed but I did it just in case! Some loose change for the photocopy machine may be useful too.

I found the staff at court very helpful.

Good luck!
