What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

If going through Solicitors all of the way and using a very broadbrush approach, the costs usually pan out as such:

£4,000 to and including FDA
£6,000 from FDA to and including FDR
£10,000 from FDR to and including Final hearing based on a time estimate of 1 day

Most parties are able to settle at or just after the FDR hearing. It's important to get early 'open' offers in as this will put pressure on the other side to settle.
