What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I went through domestic violence in the hands of my ex husband and I have had to pay for the cost of the initial divorce application. Finally got the Decree Nisi and need to apply for a financial order but I have these questions on my mind
Do I qualify for a financial order? Our marriage barely lasted two years.
Do I really need to get a mediator before applying for a financial order? Or can I go ahead and the court? He''s a solicitor and very difficult to deal with plus he''s refused to respond to past correspondents and he will most likely ignore any mediation process.
Having gone through DV, do I pay for the attached £255 fees to the court or can the court wave the fees?
Your advice will be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

As you are self rep you may be eligible for legal aid to assist you in this matter if you have crime references of domestic violence.

Do you have children with your ex which curtails your ability to earn?

You have a very very short marriage if there are no dependant children it''s very unlikely.
