What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi Guys

I''ve had a read through the other threads to see if I could spot the answer but think I have confused myself further.

I have received my Nisi through and my husband has been awarded costs. There is nothing official to say what the costs are or the time frame to which I have to pay the costs in.

My nearly ex husband has emailed and stated the costs and told me I need to pay within 14 days. If I don''t pay within this time frame he has stated he will take me to court and the costs will increase.

Is this right? I don''t currently have the money to pay and was originally hoping that I would be able to wait until after the Absolute had come through to a) give me a little time to sort the money and b) ensure he actually applies for the Absolute.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sarah

I am sure I read on this site that you would normally pay after the Absolute.

What was the outcome? I am facing same situation but from his solicitor who is demanding payment without the Decree Absolute. I don''t know when I will get it and feel I have no control over this and am being forced to pay although I don''t have the money and don''t agree. Nothing has been sorted about finances/contact since the Nisi and there has not yet been exchange of information or commencement of negotiations so I don''t know why they think I can pay. Please can anyone help?

I too would like to know.
I had a solicitor up until nisi stage and costs were £1800. Inc. At the time of the nisi my ex (respondent) was ordered to pay costs. Now i''''m a LIP waiting for my FDA and don''t know how to go about making him pay??
Does it just get deducted from his financial settlement when we go to court as he probably won''t pay if I just ask for it.

Sorry to latch on to your post Sarah.
