What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hello,

Just thouhght I'd let you know that I attended court this morning for Decree Nisi and the judge awarded costs against my husband. They had initially awarded against him as he committed adultery, but H solicitor then sent in a letter to the court saying that I had confessed to several sexual affairs throughout the marriage, a complete lie, I never committed adultery and did not want the marriage to end. i was devastated to read such lies and my solicitor responded accordingly. It seems the judge did not give much care to my husband's comments and also the fact that he earns double my salary, costs were awarded in my favour. Phew!! Massive relief as can't even afford a loaf of bread until pay day, and also - why should I pay when he was the one that left me for another woman, a fact he conveniently forgot to mention in his court letter.

Trouble is the love is still there, despite the lies he has told, and it is so hard to turn it off even after a year. He was my world.
