What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I am the resrondant inthe divorce, I have just received a certificate of entitlement to a decree, do I need to do anything, the thing that worries me is that it says I will have to pay the costs of both sides. I would appreciate some advice.

Hi Montrose,

I noticed you have had no reply.

When you received the Petition did it state in it that your stbx was applying for costs?

At this stage you can state that you will not contest the Divorce as long as each party meet their own costs.

Costs can be awarded in UB or Adultery petitions.

If ''Costs'' proceed and you have to pay, it is just costs pertaining to the ending of the marriage part which can be £1000 - £1500.

Hope this helps
