What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I've got my court papers through recently, and as my new partner is listed as the co-respondent, she's also got a copy.

What bothers me is that is says in one section that answering yes to adultery may mean she will be ordered to pay costs. It's exactly the same text as in my letter, and I'm expecting to pay costs. I'd been told previously by a solicitor I consulted initially for advice, that having the co-respondent was not an issue (as I was concerned about this too) and that having her named didn't mean she'd be made pay any costs?

Any advice or 'real life' experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My partners stbx is threatening to name me as co-respondent and I've been warned that would have financial consequences - ironic, as I came after the marriage broke down and am not the reason for it but I'm the only name she knows and in her pain is lashing out at me. Ridiculous law and needs changing.
