What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Is Form E confidential?

I filled in form E and it was sent to my ex so he could see all my financial details.

I''ve since found out that he posted my salary and monthly income on Twitter. His tweets are not protected so mutual friends have read it.

I''m not happy about this. Was he supposed to keep the information I gave confidential or is he allowed to broadcast it like this?

It is absolutely confidential and disclosure like this is forbidden. He is in deep trouble as a result. Make sure that you have saved evidence of the tweets and then make a complaint. Is he represented by a lawyer? If so, you should complain to them first. Are there court proceedings? If so, he can be called to account by the court.

No he didn''t have a lawyer.

The tweets were three months ago and the Consent Order has since been approved at court.

I''ve only found out about them as a mutual friend just told me.

Form E makes a mockery of the Data Protection Act. My ex wife''s solicitor even requested VAT returns and tax returns for the previous two years. As if the ex could even understand them!!! Plus that dated back to before we even married. We are always being told to protect our identity and yet we have to fill in Form E giving away all our financial details to someone we cant trust. There''s just no guarantee that an ex spouse wont pass on bank details, credit card numbers etc etc. As for publishing details of someone''s income on the internet, thats outrageous...

Dukey - its not allowed. Tried it last year and other side''s solicitor demanded to know what the blacked out info was. Basically I had paid my girlfriend a small amount of money and edited out her surname, and I also tried to hide what restaurants I went to (showed on debit card statement). Why the hell they wanted my VAT returns I dont know, apart from the fact that my ex might have thought I was behind with them and would get in trouble. I wasnt. I was waiting for them to ask for blood and urine samples....
