What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi - I am just completing the form E for my ex-husband''s solicitor. I have to attach all my bank/credit card statements and wonder if I can censor some of the expenditure for certain items, such as meals, towns I have visited, going to the pictures etc, but leave the amounts? I have absolutely nothing to hide financially and I do not/have not had another partner etc. It’s just my ex was very controlling. We have been separated for 2.5 years and he still tries to control me. I just don''t see why he has to know my every move for the past 12 months. I know if sounds silly, but this is really important to me - thanks for any help

You can yes as long as you leave the amounts and the amounts are fairly small, say under £200.

Hi Paris,

Welcome to Wikivorce!

I''m presuming your ex would also be providing 12 months statements uncensored.

I don''t think you can edit, redact, censor any documents.

If you don''t provide the statements voluntarily a Judge can order you to provide them and you could face a penal notice. It also looks like you are concealing things and wouldn''t reflect well on you.

Good luck!

WR

You can Rose and its quite common, when the cash amounts are low its the amount that matters not what you spent it on.

The OP is talking about towels and eating out.

So to be clear partial redaction is fine.

I''ve thought about doing this, but then figured that I really have nothing to hide. So what if he finds out that my recent holiday was in North Wales, or that I buy my clothes in Primark? I don''t have any spare money, and there have been no real extravagances (there''s no hidden purchase of a Ferrari, for example).

Perhaps it''s just the difference in circumstances, no claim for SM, no children involved. So nothing my Ex can say now, can hurt me. We''re getting divorced and, once we''ve resolved the finances, there is no need for us ever to speak again.

There are many reasons for redaction, some personal some to prevent fraud, some even by court order if a non mol is in place for example.

At the end of the day a final decision rests with the judge, the only reasons they tend to refuse redaction are if there is suspicion that one person is hiding or wasting money or not being honest where money is going.
