What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

My solicitor said that I should get the answers to all the questions ready and then at the first appointment the Judge will tell you which or more likely to answer all the questions and give you a deadline for them to be done, sent to the other side and filed at court - he should also give you a timescale to apply for a date for the FDR hearing.

That is what I did and exactly what happened at the first hearing, by the way don''t be surprised if you are only in front of the Judge for two minutes - lots of build up and bit of an anti climax really but you are on the way in the process

Best of luck and kind regards :)
