What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Can anyone advise me what documents I need for the FDR hearing. I''ve got a letter from the court telling me the date of the hearing but no mention of any documents I need to provide. Should I be sending the court a summary or something similar? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there,

You may wish to provide a case summary- i.e what valuations are agreed, where you are apart. A brief summary of any offers that have been put forward and then what your current position is. It may be that you are saying spouse has a greater earning capacity, or their capital needs are inflated etc.

Nothing else should be required.
