What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hello Folks, have been pushed to the last limit now and after a year of being ignored for the sake of being a self-repper I have just posted my Form A for the court to deal with the finances. We had a deal on the table and he has now revoked it in favour of making the children and I homeless.

I am somewhat daunted as to what to expect and how to go about putting my case together. Will I be led through it easily enough? How long will it take to go though? Do I have to meet with him and his solicitor?

Any advice gratefully received.

A desperate and down self-repper! xx

Hi,

I''m not an expert but will give this a go .......

First thing about Court is that the timeline has been set.

You may want to start gathering all your supporting documents and information for form E - have a look at these links:

Thanks Rebecca, that really helps, I know I have nothing else to lose but my stbx has bought a new car so as to reduce his available income and whatever else on loans whilst he lives with his partner. They''ve taken out a second phone line so as to pretend he is ''lodging'' with her not living together, so her assets can''t be taken into account and he is very devious when it comes to money so I can''t begin to guess what tricks he''ll pull in Court. He''s very clever at appearing the victim. All I want is our home. It was a fair swap, I get the small amount of equity and the whacking great mortgage and he gets all his pensions which are worth far more. Now, he wants the house sold and us on the street while he lives the high life with the gf in a mortgage free property. I am fair but he has forced me to go to court and now I just don''t know which way it will go. Will the judge favour him and force a sale? Will he say it has to be sold when my youngest leaves school and if he does do I get a share of his pension? I just don''t know the process and its worrying me sick. Just want this over with now. :-(

How''s it going? I sent in my Form A and form E''s should be swapped tomorrow (5/9). Mine has gone in but I haven''t got a cat''s chance of getting his!! He is a company director, being chased by Inland Revenue and VAT and is financially screwed. I don''t know where mine will go from here. Good luck xxx

Hey there. Form A sent in last week and form E''s were exchanged last Thursday. His is better than I expected, his solicitor must have advised him to be honest because he''s admitted having a new partner and included her income too. I really thought he''d hide it. However, the hard part is yet to come. Court date is the 8th October. When''s yours? xxx
