What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Do you mean a Separation Agreement?

If so, it is an agreement that you make between you about the division of assets that is drawn up by solicitors and signed by you both. Some people do this if they want to sort out the finances but wait to divorce (or not to divorce at all for some reason). Usually they get turned into Consent Orders when the divorce goes through.
