What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Do you need help sorting out a fair financial settlement?

Our consultant service offers expert advice and support to help you reach agreement on a fair financial settlement quickly, and for less than a quarter of the cost of using a traditional high street solicitor.

Have just been to a Solicitor to start legal proceedings. I only bring home £200.00 a week but that does not entitle me to Legal Aid. If I wanted to do it privately it is going to cost me £150.00 an hour with an up front payment of £800.00 my only way out is to wait until my husband stops paying the mortgage and we have to sell the house. Which is a lovely prospect for me and the fact that I cannot move on with my life. My husband is the one who has walked out on me and moved in with his girlfriend and I am being penalised for it.

Can anyone out there offer me any advise other than to just wait around until my house is repossessed

2 grand a month? 200 a week is about 10.2K a year. I think the limit is about 8.5K a year. She is just over. I think you have to be destitute to get LA or on state ben. Its still a loan and you have to pay it back. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Chris.

I have been told I qualify for legal aid and I earn under £500 a month, but also was horrified to learn I do have to pay some back which I dont have. The reason I said £2000 was because that was what my x2b is bringing home and my sol told me he wouldnt get it because he was over the limit at that, which I then assumed was £2000.
