What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Can anyone tell me how long it generally takes between one instructing their solicitor to file for divorce and the respondent actually getting the papers????
I am asking this question, because my husband told me he wanted a divorce a couple of weeks ago, and then, nothing..... I'm sure these things take time... but I am wondering how much time...
Thanks for any comments

In my case after the petition had been drawn up it took a about 7-8 weeks. I was told there was a back log at the court, so I suspect some courts may take longer that others.

Thanks for that Sheila.... I know it may seem like a daft question - but it was one that was on my mind....:)
