What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I have been separated for 27 years with no contact with my wife or 1 year old son ( at the time of separation ) i was a serving solder in those days, went awol from the army for over 14 months to stay close to my family but the strain caused us to split, i returned to the army and was sentenced to 18 months in the military prison colchester, i returned to find she had moved.her family were more than unhelpful and said she had moved on and warned me to stay away. i recieved no corrispondence whilst i was away and filed for divorce at my local court in 1989 but never heard anything. i have recently lost my business due to the current financial climate and now want to finalise this last chapter, i would like to know where i stand with regards to divorce, any advice would be really apprecated.
