What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hey all. I can apply for my final order on 25th October.

I offered my ex a Clean Break. It was an abusive relationship and he had a real issue with spending and taking out credit. I found 10 cards when I was clearing his stuff out. Also, he's still getting credit at my address then not paying it, as I get the letters and opened a few to see what they were. Sent most on.

He must be in upwards of 10K of debt as he would just spend and spend and spend, designer clothes, jewelry for me (which I sent back when kicked him out, that alone cost around 10K) I never wanted any of it.
I reckon he will attempt to get me liable for half the debt. Some is from the wedding he planned, some is for holidays we went on so I could cook and clean in another location.

How can I argue against this? And if it gets ordered I am liable for half how do I pay?
Btw I am in my own debt, and am on a very low income as a parent with all the school run responsibilities. So it's not like I will have any money to even pay him, and would they take this into account?

If it’s in his name it’s his debt.

Opening someone else’s mail is a serious offence. Better to return it to the sender.
