What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Live is good right now. Its 2 years this week from that Switzerland holiday where it all began. I have been gone almost a year (Nov 30th 2006) and my life couldnt be better. I know I have a bit to go thru but I feel I am on the downward side of the mountain. Thanx to all those that have helped me. Cheers, hic Chris

Good luck Chris. Keep your chin up. Remember they can take almost everything but they can never take your decency and your dignity. You have to throw them away yourself. Nice to hear you are feeling ok and thanks for your kind words and advice.

How time flies.

Don't know about anybody else but the old saying of "it's hard to leave someone behind", should be followed by "it's harder when you have been left".

I guess I am no different than anyone else and when my wife left last December I thought my world had fallen apart.

Almost a year on and I am divorcing her (yes, she was a liar, theif and a cheat)and life has moved on.

Now I am starting to pick up the pieces with the beginnings of a new relationship (somewhat wiser I might add.

I guess the moral is - life goes on and I hope the ex walks under a bus!!

Hi Guru

I have to tell you; this site has helped me in many ways. It makes you realise that there is always someone out there worse off than you are.

In terms of your ex moving in with somene else; I am afraid that it would seem to be the norm.

Someone once told me at the beginning of all this for me "there is someone else out there" and I laughed because I simply didn't want to move on; now I do!!!! Big difference.

Nah, she can't! Becuase this boy never had any decency in the first place!

Joking aside Chris: Well done! I'm still stuck at Base Camp of that mountain. When the weather's cleared, I'll get up there with my spikey shoes, and cause an avalanche!

...in 1999 after my first divorce, someone told me that too! Eight yrs later, after my mum died, I met Mr. Heaven-sent wonderful... and so married him!

Now, I'm on divorce numero deux!!!

Maybe he wasn't the right someone...
