What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I have been forced on income support to support me and my two kids and am in the process of divorcing my husband for mental cruelty, adultery, and unreasonable behaviour. At first he said he wouldn't contest it but all of a sudden now he has decided to contest it because he has now moved in with his new partner after falling in love with her after 10 days of knowing her. We have known each other for 23 years and married for 19. He and his new partner work full time and between them rake in more than £50.000 a year. I am going to try and get spousal maintenance and maintenance for my children. Will it cost him if he contests it on the grounds that he hasn't got a chance with i have witnesses.?:dry::dry:
