What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Do you need help sorting out a fair financial settlement?

Our consultant service offers expert advice and support to help you reach agreement on a fair financial settlement quickly, and for less than a quarter of the cost of using a traditional high street solicitor.

The current situation is that the date we are looking at is 8 December.

However I have had to rule out Mussi''s because they want a deposit of £100, and someone will have to pay that upfront and collect the cash from whoever comes. I can see problems here and I think we will have to look elsewhere.

At the moment I am looking at somewhere with the rather sinister title of the Slug and Lettuce, and they are not insisting on a deposit, but would want guests to order in advance.

Ideally I would like somewhere where we can just be like ordinary diners.

Watch this space.

ES there are quite a lot of wikis that live and meet in London.

Keep an eye out as I am sure more stuff will be arranged over the festive period.

I guess that my preparations for a wikimeet have been disrupted by my wife''s death.
However the restaurant I had in mind ( The Slug and Lettuce in Colchester ) have not responded to my E Mail and I am beginning to think that, if they want guests to pre-order, this could cause complications that I do not like, notably what happens if someone orders but does not turn up.
In view of the lack of response from the restaurant I will have to think again. It''s getting near the time for office Christmas parties.
I wish they had the Golden Corral in England. Their Bourbon Street chicken and coconut cream pie is something else.

Stratford on Avon, & Chester have also been suggested (in Chat) as likely venues for the ''near future''.

If anybody has inside knowledge of either place, feel free to say!

Christmas means that lots of restaurants are already booking out and they''ll be fussy about numbers. How about early in the new year - when all the Christmas ghastliness has passed?
