I doubt anyone would even consider camping in the current weather. Well maybe those die hard types would.

For those of us who would still like a family holiday this year, but don''t have the budget to have a fortnight abroad in a villa or hotel, maybe you would consider camping.

Its a cheap and really fun holiday.

Thank you to Arnold Rimmer for writing this informative and humorous article.

For those who have already experienced camping, if you have any stories to share, lease feel free to share them in this thread.

Since I split with my ex 4 years ago I have always taken my children camping. The first time they were 5 10 and 12. I llove it having everything you need in a car, no pressure for meal times and best of all no tv or computers but as they get older we do ave electric for phone and iPod chargers.

We started in the uk and visited Cromer , Windsor ( brought merlin passes for the year and spent alot of time in lego land and chessington ) my local campsite as a trial run and then I ventured to a campsite just outside Paris the next year and we did eurodisney and Paris itself . This year it''s west France on the beach in August :-).

My friends think I am mad but it gives me proper quality time with the kids and is fairly cheap and for me I gets relaxing break. And it teaches the kids to be quite independent both my girls can put up a tent and pack it away.

Would recommend camping to everyone :-)

well, going posh camping, (caravan) tot he lakes int e morning for 4 days. B)
Should be interesting.
I know there will be campers there in tents too and certinly next weekend. Many times I have seen tents and squares where tents have been in the snow at hawkeshead.
Camping is a lot of fun, I do it as some of you know with my kids, as well as the caravan, which I am lucky to have.
Kids are not bothered if you dont have every mod camping con, they just love the outdoors and sleeping out. Bacon butties all day long and crisps and pop, sorted.
Check out shell island for some real camping fun.

Lightweights!!

I just drove an hour each way to drop my son off at cubcamp in the snow!!!!

They''re going to have a whale of a time, snow monsters, virgin snow footprinting, giant snowball competitions....

They''re in huts rather than under canvas (I didn''t tell him that until we got there though ;-))

Seriously though, I''ve always been a camper and my kids both love it. It can be expensive if you go high season to one of the more expensive camping/caravanning/mobile home-type sites, but find you feet locally before you head further afield and with a bit of planning and imagination you''ll have a whale of a time!!!

Maybe in a few weeks ;-)
