What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Valentine's day doesn't upset me now that we are seperated.

I did however get upset on valentine's day every year we were together, because my STBX did nothing, bought nothing, sent nothing, not even for the kids to give me.

Apart from 14/02/06 he told me he was moving out, no significance, Valentine's meant nothing to him.

So for the last 2 years I have had no expectations and thus no dissapointment.

Just a thought - I've never, EVER, had a Valentine - my ex was a miserable bu***r too. However, I was more upset by Mother's Day - I was made out to be 'strange' because I expected something from my kids. My ex didn't believe in the day, but woe betide me if I didn't buy HIS mother a card and present when I bought them for my own mother!!!!

When my mother died I told him the job was now his. Guess what he did? 'Forgot' and when his father came to the house complaining that his mother was upset, he took the potted plant I had bought for myself for Mother's Day and gave it his mum!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes you just have to laugh. My thoughtful STBX remembered Valentines Day and she manipulated the lodging of court papers out of the blue, with me as the respondent, to ensure that the papers were served on me ON VALENTINES DAY!!!!!!!!! Is the glass half full or half empty? Well, at least I got post which wasnt junk mail or bills (which Ive no money to pay anyway)through the door!!
As a newbie this forum really helpful..until yesterday I thought I was on my own but obviously not.
Now looking to move forward...maybe a happier Valentines Day next year??!!B)
