What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

After 2 divorces and the turmoil of going through the family courts to get a contact order for my children i understand your stress, but there is life after divorce and things do get better, you just have to ride the storm.
Its not for everyone, but what helped me was quiting smoking and taking up running. Everytime i felt i was getting down about the divorce and family courts, i would go for a run to clear the air, i''m not saying my ex was that bad (well maybe i am) but later that year i completed the London Marathon.
So in times of depression and stress a little self belief can go along way and with a little effort after a few years you will think "why was i stressing so much?" and hopefully you will be surprised how well you managed to get through your darkest hours.

Thanks, Charno. Darkest hours indeed. The grief and betrayal I''m feeling right now is almost impossible to convey. If I passed in my sleep I''d welcome it. This is affecting everything - I''m self employed and haven''t been able to work these past few days, my physical health is suffering and I confess I''m hitting the bottle hard. I just spoke to my brother and asked if I could go and stay for a few days and was told, blankly, no. Jesus wept.
