What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Do you need help sorting out a fair financial settlement?

Our consultant service offers expert advice and support to help you reach agreement on a fair financial settlement quickly, and for less than a quarter of the cost of using a traditional high street solicitor.

I need to take a little better care of myself so here is what I am going to do in the month of May. Please help keep me accountable.

1. I will visit my new lawyer and start divorce proceedings

2. I will exercise at least 30 minutes every day

3. I will talk to at least one friend in person or on the phone every day

That''s it. Pretty doable I think!

Sounds pretty doable to me. But you missed out ''keep posting on this site and asking for support/help/advice as and when I need it''. And, as you''ve told me, remember that there is a better future out there.

All the best,

Hi Canuck,
That''s a great set of objectives for May, doing a list of things is something my therapist recomended. What you need to do is to put some firm dates around each activity.
