Separated 3 years in December, no contact apart from a few texts and grapevine gossip about his antics. I''m in good place but for one reason or another the divorce kept being delayed particularly to get him to mediation and to
get his financial deceleration. I was in no rush so didn''t think anything of it - until this week - I have been sent a letter from court to say a debt company is requesting a charge against the family home for a rather large debt he has ran up!
In the last 3 years and the 17 prior to that I paid the mortgage. Also
I borrowed £10,000 on repairs and structural work to
maintain the property. Now he will reap the rewards .

I am a fool because I thought as we were separate and live our own new lives I was safe. Not so! He has ran up massive credit card bills that he cannot repay and they have been after him for a long time - resulting in this. PLEASE anyone dilly dallying with your divorce safe-guard yourself against similar happening to you!
I am a MUG again. But you can be savy!

You would think there would be some protective law about it! You need to see your lawyer asap as she may be able to give advice on stopping further debt. Fingers crossed x

I agree with the OP, if you living apart and there is no chance of getting back together don''t delay, your just storing up trouble for the future, and it can get very nasty.

See a solicitor double quick, it maybe given circumstances the debt built up can be attributed to the person who spent the money, long term that is, it can only be done via a financial settlement, it won''t help short term while creditors are chasing the money.

I filed for divorce wen he left (he left jan I filed feb) but he still hasn''t signed (I have) I wanted to save the marriage but he''s proving he don''t yet says he can''t sign bit can''t commit to coming back.., (says he''s fractured.. He had an affair and just walked out the say I found out.. No fight.. He now lives with her but spends the weekends here with me as kids refuse to meet her)

I ask him to sign or discuss U.S. he just says he can''t sign is away bit makes no effort to fight for me he just carries in living with her

The weekend was my last straw no more spending time together he can pick up and drop off kids) and I feel like I mean it this time (he was the live of my life we have 4 kids) my story is on the introduce urself forum).
So he refuses to sign he''s kived with her since may .. Had papers 10 months and just ignored them.....?

oh my you have given me alot to consider, mine left in July, dont know where he is living but he is a gambling addict.
I already owned my home before we got together, so mortgage and deeds are in my sole name.
I know he had 2 maxed credit cards and a loan he was running away from, got these the first time he left in 2003 and he has made no payments on them.
He owes over 2000 to the Inland Revenue from when he left the second time in 2007.
He is more than likely running up more debt to feed his habit.
I was going to wait to start Divorce proceedings as the way he left with no warning has made me quite ill but maybe that would be to risky.
